Sitting comfortably on the dock in the river, this vibrant and colorful sea lion stands out beautifully against the drizzly gray backdrop of a typical winter’s day on the Columbia River. This unique and one-of-a-kind fiber art expression represents countless hours, days, and months of dedicated creative time spent in my cozy sewing loft.

This lovely piece features intricate fabric appliqué layered over a painted canvas. Once the carefully chosen fabrics have been applied, the colored thread is stitched over the top to represent the fine details: the delicate folds of the skin, the soulful eyes, the gentle whiskers in a play of shadows and highlights.

The finished work is stretched and framed with a simple, classic black frame, allowing it to shine even more.
